This Digital IR Photo from Queen Lili’uokalani Park: Uapo-Bridge: The bridge reminded her of the conflict in her mind. She looked at her date and was uncertain. She didn’t belief for a moment that he was capable of violence and yet she felt alarm. She had known many men and there was always that capacity for violence, sometimes on the surface, and sometimes buried deep inside. On the outside, on the surface, a man might seem to be very civilized, but often they would fly into a dangerous fury if they felt disrespect or threatened or didn’t get their way. She had the sense that this man always wanted to be in control. He had to have things done in a certain way or his temper would flare. He had an unusual way of looking at the world. He resented any one who tried to disagree with him over even minor things. It wasn’t even possible to suggest alternatives. But even so he had many charming qualities and she like him a lot. She knew that it would be better if she didn’t. Because it was clear to her that he would hurt her. She turned, reluctantly, to cross the bridge, and leave him on the other side.
