At a molecular level the axons and dendrites of nerve cells fight for blood and oxygen in a plasmic soup of red and with blood cells and various shaded stress hormones to survive and gain enough strength to raise to the level of conscious thought which then becomes known to the person as feelings. The struggle is vicious and constant but often buried in the subconscious and sometimes brought to conscious awareness in therapy sessions.
